Typed transcribed weather diary kept from 1841 through 1851 by Robert Ball Edes. The following note is found on leaf 69 of the transcript: "The morning & evening observations were taken at Charlestown and Noon in State Street in Boston except on Sundays, when all three were taken at Charlestown. R.B.E." Edes recorded temperature, wind direction, precipitation, and occasional notes and comments unrelated to weather.

Massachusetts sea captain; member of Boston Marine Society. Born Sept. 3, 1789, in Charlestown, Mass., to Thomas and Mary Ball Edes. Died in Worcester, Mass., Sept. 22, 1862; buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Married Sarah Barker of Pembroke, Mass., on Jan. 18, 1818.
